Overview:
Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking an Associate Health Physicist or Health Physicist (Radiological Engineer) to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).
The Associate Health Physicist or Health Physicist provides technical guidance in support of company radiological designs and modifications. Calculates, analyzes, establishes, and incorporates proper radiological protection controls to prevent or minimize adverse effects to onsite personnel, the surrounding public, and the environment.
Responsibilities:
An Associate Health Physicist (Grade 65):
Applies limited use of radiological engineering and health physics principles learned through formal education and work experience for multiple facilities/projects as assigned.
Provides technical, operational, and regulatory guidance on radiological protection issues.
Performs limited assessments, calculations, and analysis to determine monitoring for proper radiological protection controls and shielding required to meet or exceed company/regulatory standards, while considering the economic impacts under general supervision.
Prepares technical documentation and models to support calculations.
Manages (tracking, estimating, etc.) and communicates changes to assigned schedule.
Conducts peer review of tests and calculations for standard projects under general supervision.
Becomes familiar with facilities, projects, processes, and regulatory procedures based on guidance from colleagues and supervisor.
Supports senior members of the group while working independently on less complex tasks.
Serves as subject matter expert (SME) for radiation protection procedures that perform limited radiological calculations, calibrations, data reviews, regulatory reviews, and assessments.
Performs research and analyzes new equipment to support the development of cost-effective solutions and improvements.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional responsibilities for a Health Physicist (Grade 66):Applies general radiological engineering and health physics principles learned through formal education and work experience for multiple facilities/projects as assigned.
Provides technical, operational, and regulatory guidance on radiological protection issues working directly with representatives from assigned facilities/projects.
Performs standard assessments, calculations, and analyses to determine monitoring for proper radiological protection controls and shielding required to meet or exceed company/regulatory standards, while considering the economic impacts.
Prepares standard technical documentation and models to support calculations.
Manages (tracking, estimating, etc.) and communicates changes to assigned schedule.
Conducts peer review of tests and calculations for standard projects as assigned.
Stays current on facilities, projects, processes, and regulatory procedures.
Supports senior members of the group while working independently on less complex tasks.
Serves as subject matter expert (SME) for radiation protection procedures that perform standard radiological calculations, calibrations, data reviews, regulatory reviews, and assessments.
Represents the group semi-independently in meetings based on familiarity with Code of Federal Regulations, DOE Orders, 5Q RadCon Manual and Site Engineering Standards.
Presents technical reports and lectures from assigned tasks to peers, facility personnel, and management.
May perform research and analyze new equipment to develop cost-effective solutions and improvements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering, health physics or applicable science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
This is a multi-level posting. Candidate(s) selected to receive an offer will be offered the position level commensurate with their experience and qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications for an Associate Health Physicist (Grade 65):
Internship(s) held within nuclear weapons facilities, demolition and destruction Site or nuclear power plant facilities.
Basic understanding and knowledge of general health physics principles; fundamental knowledge of related disciplines.
Familiarity with MCNP, SCALE, Origen ARP, MicroShield, HOTSPOT codes.
Preferred qualifications for a Health Physicist (Grade 66):Knowledge of health physics concepts, principles and techniques; general knowledge of related disciplines.
Working knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations, DOE Orders, and ANSI standards that provide guidance and requirements for radiation protection programs.
Familiarity with MCNP, SCALE, Origen ARP, MicroShield, HOTSPOT codes.

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), a prime contractor for the US Department of Energy, is responsible for managing the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site’s Liquid Waste operations contract. Located in Aiken, South Carolina, SRMC is a limited liability company formed by nuclear operations and environmental remediation global leaders BWXT, Amentum, and Fluor.
