Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join the medicine occupational therapy team at Princess Alexandra Hospital. You will be responsible for providing an Occupational Therapy service for acute inpatients, managing a specified caseload by undertaking assessment, treatment, and evaluation of patients referred to the service. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary and agency team, practicing autonomously in line with the College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and Health Professions Council Regulations. You will also actively participate in Continuing Professional Development and contribute to the development of in-service training within the department.

Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapist, you will work under the indirect supervision of the senior occupational therapist, carrying out both clinical and administrative duties. You will deliver care across hospital wards and patient home assessments as required, prioritising and coordinating patient care within the wider clinical team. You will undertake assessments using clinical reasoning to select from a range of standardised and non-standardised tools and techniques, establishing problem lists and setting goals relevant to the acute setting. You will also select and apply appropriate treatment techniques within your current scope of practice, including rehabilitative, developmental, and compensatory approaches, guided by the evidence base.

Job Roles & Responsibilities

* To continuously develop specialist skills and maintain professional expertise in occupational therapy.

* To organise and prioritise daily workload efficiently, assigning tasks to OT Assistants and Support Workers when appropriate.

* To mentor and provide guidance to Occupational Therapy Students and less experienced team members.

* To deliver targeted occupational therapy interventions that promote independence, tailoring approaches to individual patient needs.

* To plan and carry out safe patient assessments in the hospital and community, including the correct use, adjustment, and upkeep of therapy equipment.

* To liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring accurate documentation, reporting, and adherence to Trust policies and procedures.

Person Specifications & Qualifications

* HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with OT degree/diploma

* Experience in inpatient medicine care.

* Proficient in Moving & Handling, BLS, and SystemOne.

* Evidence of CPD

* UK driving licence desirable
