Band 7 Senior Chief Cardiac Physiologist

Job summary

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a comprehensive range of acute, outpatient, and diagnostic services. This role involves working efficiently within a multidisciplinary team to deliver both basic and complex cardiac investigations across the Trust. Responsibilities include performing a variety of diagnostic tests for the Cardiac Assessment Unit according to the daily workload schedule, providing accurate written reports for all investigations, and communicating effectively with colleagues to ensure smooth service delivery.

Main duties of the job

This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced and BSE-accredited Cardiac Physiologist to perform and report on both basic and complex cardiac investigations, including transthoracic echocardiography, pacemaker follow-up, and exercise tolerance testing. You will work within a skilled multidisciplinary team, supervise junior staff, contribute to departmental protocols, and play an active part in training, service development, and research projects. Job responsibilities

* To independently carry out transthoracic echocardiography, participate in specialist echo procedures (TOE, DSE, LVO, bubble echo), and analyse 24-hour ECG/Event Monitor recordings with accurate written reports.

* To conduct pacemaker follow-ups, assist with device selection and implantation, and perform haemodynamic monitoring in the Cardiac Catheterisation Lab.

* To oversee and provide detailed reports for exercise tolerance tests to ensure accurate cardiac assessments.

* To teach and supervise junior physiologists, student physiologists, and assist in training other staff, including junior medical staff, in testing techniques.

* To use the Cosmic and CRIS systems for patient administration, organise departmental schedules, and maintain accurate records.

* To uphold a clean, safe working environment, provide cross-site cover when required, assist with research projects, and take responsibility for ongoing professional

Person Specification & Qualifications

* Cardiac Physiologist degree or equivalent (HNC/Htec).

* BSE accreditation (or equivalent).

* Minimum of 2 years echocardiography experience.

* Knowledge across all aspects of cardiology.

* ILS (Immediate Life Support) training.
