JOB TITLE
Forensic Clinician
We are seeking a highly motivated Forensic Clinician for our clients residential program which provides mental health services and housing for up to 60 Adults ages 18 to 59. Developed in conjunction with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, the program serves individuals with a history of placement failure or psychiatric instability who are ready for discharge from Institutions for Mental Disease, Acute Psychiatric Inpatient Units, or Crisis Residential Facilities and are in need of a safe place to live. The primary focus is to provide intensive mental health support in a structured residential environment in order to prepare the client for more independent community living and a transition into a stable community environment.
The Forensic Clinician must have an MSW, MA/MS, PhD, or PsyD from an accredited university and be license-eligible. The responsibilities of the position include providing individual and group therapy, as well as case management services to an adult forensic population. Documentation on all services provided must be submitted within 24-hours of service delivery. Clinical staff participates in all meetings and supervision activities. Assists with any other project as indicated by the Director, Assistant Director, or Program Coordinator as needed. Must maintain a clear criminal record for continued employment eligibility.
ESSENTIALS DUTIES
Maintains accurate and up-to-date clinical charts with appropriate and timely completion of all required documentation, including but not limited to, assessments, progress notes, treatment and discharge
Provides full services to an assigned caseload, including individual, group, couples, family psychotherapy, case recording and management, and re-hospitalization. Meets all contracted monthly service requirements
Implements and is responsible for the treatment planning needs of assigned client caseload
Makes and implements client disciplinary recommendations, as needed
Provides on-call coverage for emergency consultation and intervention outside of regular work hours
Participates in assigned program, treatment planning, and in-service training meetings as scheduled
Productively participates in weekly individual and group supervision. Maintains and improves clinical skills, through supervision, training seminars and classes. Follows supervisor’s directives
Maintains an objective and professional relationship with clients at all times
Works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary treatment team, including timely and effective communications
Effectively presents clinical case material as needed
Communicates effectively with clients as well as their family members and significant others
Maintains active and effective liaison with relevant community agencies and initiates collateral contact with family, friends, board and care operators referring agencies and professionals as needed for the client’s continuity of care
Exercises good judgment by objectively and unemotionally analyzing facts, weighing evidence, utilizing clinical skills and reaching sound conclusions
Responds appropriately under difficult or stressful circumstances
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Working Knowledge of Mental status examinations and current diagnostic manual
Knowledge of psychiatric mental health theories and practices
Individual and group treatment with clients who present a variety of psychopathologies
Ability to function as primary therapist and member of multi-disciplinary treatment team
Ability to accurately observe and document treatment sessions
Knowledge and understanding of human relationships
Ability to work and relate effectively with visitors, police, and community members
Ability to accurately assess statements and behaviors of clients for evidence of antisocial behavior
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATES
Masters Degree in Behavioral Sciences or related area from an accredited university.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of medications, working knowledge of current diagnostic manual. Clinical experience in provision of individual or group treatment and training with multi-racial (ethnic) populations.
Eligible for licensure ASW, AMFT, or APCC according to WIC (phone number removed). Waivered or Waiver-eligible Phd or PsyD
REQUIREMENTS
Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.
Valid California Driver’s license.
TB clearance.
Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.
Fire and Safety Training
First Aid Training Certification*.
CPR Certification*.
Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI)
COMPENSATION
$29.98/hr – $30.01/hr (non-bilingual)
$31.01/hr (bilingual Spanish)
Additional DMH compensation, up to $1,250/month.
Supervised Hours & Continuing Education
Employer provides supervised hours and continuing education for Asscociate licensed employees.
Schedule
Monday – Friday
8am – 4:30pm, 8:30am – 5:00pm, or 9:00am – 5:30pm

* Note: If indicated certifications/licenses are lacking, they must be obtained within 180 days of hire.
Training needs to be completed within 30 days from the date of hire on a designated date provided by onboarding. Staff need to be certified at the commensurate level for their role to perform their job duties (staff will be taken off the schedule if certification is not achieved).
