Job Title: Lab Assistant

Location: Marlborough, MA, 01752
Duration: 3+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Monday to Friday, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM 
Pay Rate: $26/hr on w2

Position Summary:
The Laboratory Assistant performs routine laboratory support tasks with precision and accuracy to assist laboratory professionals in maintaining efficient workflow. This role involves handling, processing, and preparing specimens, maintaining lab equipment, and ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive, sort, and properly identify patient specimens for testing.

  • Perform specimen processing tasks including centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling, and storage.

  • Prepare reagents, media, and other materials used for laboratory testing.

  • Check specimens for clots, fibrin, and other abnormalities before processing.

  • Build worklists and prepare samples for analysis according to laboratory protocols.

  • Perform routine instrument maintenance and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures.

  • Record and maintain accurate laboratory data, including temperature logs and pending lists.

  • Locate and resolve missing or delayed samples as needed.

  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the laboratory by decontaminating work areas and disposing of biohazardous materials properly.

  • Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests and assist with gas cylinder replacement.

  • Maintain department files and records in compliance with laboratory policy.

  • Operate the laboratory information system (LIS) and personal computers efficiently.

  • Follow all PPE and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Complete required training and competency checklists as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

    • Medical Assistant training helpful.

    • Math and science coursework preferred.

  • Experience: No prior experience required; laboratory or medical experience preferred.

  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.

    • Steady hands for handling test tubes and processing specimens such as urine.

    • Ability to multitask and prioritize duties efficiently.

    • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

    • Basic computer and data entry proficiency.
