Fairview Health Services is looking for a Lead Laboratory Care Technician at . This is a fulltime opening on the day shift, 5am-3:30pm, 2 out of 6 weekends, and occasional vacation.

The University of Minnesota Medical Center Acute Laboratories perform clinical hematology, chemistry, blood gas, coagulation, urinalysis, transfusion medicine, and blood collection and processing. The East Core Laboratory cares for critical adult inpatients and serves as a central receiving laboratory for specialty laboratories. The East Core team consists of 160 employees.

Responsibilities/Job Description:
Working with diverse populations within a healthcare environment, the Lead Laboratory Care Technician plays an important role in providing quality, proficient and professional services in keeping with Fairview Values as they interact with our patients, families, and co-workers. The Lead LCT performs laboratory specimen collection at various Fairview or outreach locations, as well as, provides for safe and secure specimen handling and point of care testing. Responsible for accurately entering orders and collection information into the Laboratory Information System and associated subsystems; monitoring computer logs for incomplete work; scheduling tests/procedures and providing results in LIS/HIS and over the phone, the Lead LCT’s attention to detail and accuracy are the foundation for our providing quality laboratory services. Working as an individual or team member, the LCT continuously works towards providing quality service improvement and optimum support to the department and team members in achieving Fairview’s goals.
The Lead assignment coordinates the daily workflow and solves issues which need resolution within a department, in a peer to peer relationship and as a liaison with leadership. The focus is to strengthen and enhance the work climate and workflow. The Lead has a high level of technical expertise and displays role model competency in knowledge, communication, and experience while acting as the primary peer resource.
Job Expectations includes: following established guidelines to obtain specimens and perform procedures, prioritizing work to achieve optimal patient outcomes, Information Processing, maintaining a safe work environment, Lead duties/workflow Accountabilities (Timekeeping, Scheduling, Training and Orientation, Coordination of daily workflow), and duties as assigned.
A specific “lead” assignment for a role is designated and subject to change or modification as deemed by business and department needs. This is not a supervisory or management role.
Qualifications:
Required
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Education
Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program. -OR-
Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience -OR-
Enrollment in final year of MLT or MLS program.
Experience
Two years of experience in a phlebotomy role
Successful customer service background within a diverse cultural setting
