Locum Biomedical Scientist - Microbiology - Isle of Man

Job Title: Biomedical Scientist – Microbiology
Location: Nobles Hospital, Isle of Man
Grade: Band 6
Contract Type: Temporary
Start Date: ASAP
Average Weekly Core Hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week

Umbrella Rate: £42 per hour (including agency commission)

Job Overview:

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Biomedical Scientist in the field of Microbiology to join the team at Nobles Hospital. This is a temporary position offering the opportunity to contribute to the high standards of healthcare services on the Isle of Man.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform diagnostic testing in microbiology, including bacteriology, virology, and parasitology.

Process specimens and analyse results in a laboratory setting.

Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring high levels of safety and quality control.

Participate in the identification of microbial pathogens and provide relevant reports.

Ensure all laboratory practices comply with safety regulations and quality assurance standards.

Work collaboratively with clinical teams to ensure the timely and accurate reporting of test results.

Maintain accurate records of all laboratory work, adhering to data protection and confidentiality guidelines.

Special Requirements:

HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist.

IBMS Specialist Diploma in Medical Microbiology.

Recent UK experience in microbiology or a related field.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Essential Criteria:

Experience in Microbiology within a hospital or laboratory environment.

Strong technical skills in diagnostic microbiology techniques.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Good communication and team-working skills.

Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.

Desirable Criteria:

Experience working with laboratory equipment and technology.

Knowledge of health and safety standards within a clinical laboratory setting.

Previous experience in handling complex diagnostic cases and reporting.
