Job Description:
Exciting Opportunity at MSK: We are currently seeking a Medical Lab Assistant III for the Main Blood Bank at the Center for Laboratory Medicine and Main Hospital Rapid Results Laboratory Blood Depot.
Role Overview:
Receives and, if necessary, accessions all samples as soon as they arrive in the laboratory. Follows established procedures for accessioning specimens in the laboratory computer system.
Reviews all test requests thoroughly for errors, omissions, clarity, and potential problems; Checks that test requests are appropriate for specimen received and that specimen meets all requirements before proceeding with accessioning (e.g., assures correct specimens based on color of tube top against requested tests).
Submits, processes and follows up on orders for laboratory supplies and equipment. Tracks equipment maintenance and repairs.
Issues blood products to patient floors and monitors supply of blood products in the laboratory.
Prepares components from whole blood and apheresis collections to be used for transfusion.
Provides direction, advanced training, and feedback on routine laboratory procedures, as assigned. specimens as needed. Documents the information correctly; Explains and demonstrates all required procedures, competencies, and workflow. Assesses trainees’ backgrounds and provides explanations on an appropriate level of detail.
Key Qualifications:
2 years’ experience in a clinical laboratory as a Laboratory Technician, Laboratory Assistant or related job.
High school diploma or equivalent, with graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program and relevant specialized certifications.
Core Skills:
Competence in analyzing data and interpreting results to draw meaningful conclusions.
Knowledge of safety protocols and practices to maintain a safe working environment.
Strong organizational abilities to manage samples, maintain inventory, and keep detailed records.
Known to deliver messages in a clear, compelling, and concise manner.
