About the facility: The Central Alabama VA Healthcare System
The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is a VA healthcare system that was formed in 1997 by merging the Montgomery and Tuskegee VA Medical Centers. Medical Physicist RSO – RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
- Will perform testing and certification of imaging equipment located at the facilities listed above.
- Will conduct medical physics performance and compliance evaluations of all radiation-producing equipment.
- Shielding Integrity Evaluations and Room Scatter Surveys performed on initial/acceptance tests to ensure compliance with state regulations.
- Evaluations performed in accordance with applicable Accreditation Body standards and guidelines (i.e., JCAHO, ACR)
- Will conduct CT Annual Medical Physics Survey, including performance and compliance evaluations, equipment surveys, image quality evaluations, CTDI measurements as recommended by the ACR, notifications of regulatory changes and/or updates, and evaluation of hard-copy and soft-copy imaging devises to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Will conduct MRI annual medical physics survey, including acceptance testing in accordance with ACR and AAPM established guidelines and procedures, equipment bid specification assistance for new MRI units, annual performance evaluations meeting, annual performance testing on all RF coils to include signal-to-noise measurement, review of clinical imaging parameters to ensure that parameters continue to meet/exceed ACR recommendations, review of onsite MRI QC program and safety.
- Nuclear medicine audit, to include quarterly or semi-annual review of nuclear medicine program in accordance with NRC, spot checks of required records, observations of clinical practices, radiation safety surveys, perform radioactive sealed source leak tests, perform radioactive sealed source inventory, perform annual dose calibrator accuracy test, and perform quarterly dose calibrator linearity test, if coordinated.
- Perform gamma camera survey, to include intrinsic uniformity, extrinsic uniformity, intrinsic spatial resolution, system spatial resolution, sensitivity, energy resolution, count rate parameters, multiple window spatial registration, formatter/video display, overall system performance of SPECT Systems, system interlocks evaluation, dose calibrator QC review and counting system QC review.
Medical Physicist RSO – REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Must have a Master's degree in Medical Physics
- Must have at least 3 years of experience
- Performing QA procedures
- Experience in Therapeutic Medical Physics in a healthcare system that is ACR or APEx certified
- Experience with Varian Linear Accelerators: TrueBeam with Brain Lab Accessories, following the standards of TG-142
- Experience with Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), including Cone Beam CT
- Experience with Eclipse treatment planning system and ARIA record and verify system, including the following treatment modalities: 2D/3D Conformal, SRS, SRT, SBRT, and IMRT/VMAT
- Experience IMRT QA: MApCheck (or equivalent)
- Experience Client Discovery CT Simulator (or equivalent)
- Experience using Superficial X-ray Machine
- Successfully performed one acceptance test on a linear accelerator
- Successfully performed one commission of a linear accelerator for a treatment planning system
- Board Certified in Medical Physics or Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology.
