Description:
Blanchard Valley Hospital is looking for a Senior Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist to provide full time coverage!
OVERVIEW: The senior radiation oncology physicist develops and uses medical radiation treatment, devices, and technologies. Their responsibilities include planning radiation treatments, ensuring patients receive the correct dose, and directly participating in a patient's diagnosis and treatment. Working in radiotherapy physics, the physicist will be responsible for the precision and accuracy of treatments using advanced computer calculations to develop individual patient treatment plans. The physicist will use images of the cancer to outline target volume. In addition, the physicist will ensure equipment is safe, effective, and working properly, and will maintain it at high quality standards, while performing QA and troubleshooting. The physicist will study how radiation affects the body, researching new treatment options and developing new safety procedures. There are additional expectations around teaching other team members, advising on radiation safety and identifying problems, developing clinical solutions, and implementing quality management programs. The senior physicist serves as the designated Certified Radiation Expert for the Armes Family Cancer Care Center.
SCHEDULE" Practice hours Mon-Fri, 8:00am-4:30pm" Full-time Sr. Physicist on-site 3 days/week with 2 days remote (40 hours)" Part-time physicist working on-site the 2 days/week on days the full-time physicist is remote, plus an additional half-day remote if needed (equal up to 20 hours)

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and execute the Radiation Oncology Quality Assurance (QA) and Safety Program, including policies, procedures, and staff support.
- Implement, manage, and maintain all medical physics QA equipment, ensuring preventive maintenance and routine calibrations (e.g., patient diodes, daily therapist QA).
- Coordinate with alternate physicists to ensure full clinic coverage; manage vacation/illness schedules and provide emergency consultation as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and accreditation standards related to medical physics.
- Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists, Dosimetrists, and Therapists to ensure safe and effective patient treatments, including initial physics consultations, plan reviews, and specialized dose measurements.
- Administer, maintain, and oversee all physics-related software systems, including treatment planning, monitor unit calculation, and QA software; manage updates and upgrades.
- Perform daily, monthly, and annual QA testing on linear accelerators, CT simulators, and treatment planning systems per regulatory requirements; serve as the primary contact for equipment issues or downtime.
- Oversee dosimetry operations, including plan reviews and quality assurance for each patient, with a focus on IMRT and advanced planning; participate in weekly chart rounds.
- Perform dosimetry functions in the absence of the dosimetrist to ensure continuity of care.
- Be present for all HyperArc, SBRT, SRS, SRT, and other high-dose treatments as determined by the radiation oncologist.
- Commission and maintain HyperArc and stereotactic systems in the treatment planning system; manage related QA equipment and act as the radiation safety liaison during regulatory inspections.
- Conduct weekly patient chart reviews and maintain accurate documentation of patient consults, QA activities, and treatment records.
- Manage physics testing, credentialing, and RTOG protocol participation, lead planning and implementation for new treatment modalities, accreditations, or certifications.
