As a Lead Project Metalurgist, you ll be part of our GTS team located in Towson, MD. You ll get to:

* Lead Towson metallics team of 2~4 engineers & technicians.
* Provide Technical Support for project and business teams
* Support New Product Development, Resident Engineering, Purchasing and Operations
* Utilize technical expertise and problem solving skills for manufacturing and sourcing issues.
* Perform Failure Analysis and lead efforts to resolve issues effectively and efficiently.
* Work directly with suppliers to ensure consistent quality of components & raw materials.
* Identify and implement materials and processing alternatives for Value Improvement and Warranty initiatives.
* Evaluate, purchase and maintain materials laboratory equipment
* Provide leadership, advice, and engineering expertise to colleagues, and you ll mentor, train, and develop junior engineers
* Coordinate internal and external resources and will develop and maintain key supplier relationships.
* Collaborate cross functionally with non-engineering disciplines including operations, marketing, and sourcing on strategic initiatives including complexity reduction, cost reduction, warranty reduction, mfg. plant transfers, and others.
* Investigate design issues & test failures, and effectively identify, recommend, and implement corrective actions to components and/or mfg. process.
* Support the Milestone process for all engineering requirements to deliver a product that meets our history of guaranteed tough products.
* Generate technical documentation (specifications, engineering reports, design guidelines).
* Provide recommendations to the business on viability, capabilities, and limitations of evaluated technologies.
* Travel as necessary to suppliers, conferences, and manufacturing facilities. Approximately 25% expected.

* A Bachelor s degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering with 10+ years related experience. At least 5 years of experience in supervising engineers, and you enjoy coaching, mentoring, and developing talent
* Proficient in metallic material properties and processes
* Able to lead Towson metallics team and provide expertise and technical support to new product engineering on appropriate materials and processes.
* Capable of providing technical support to engineering, manufacturing and purchasing, including process and supplier development, materials evaluation, process troubleshooting and problem resolution
* An effective communicator who can share technical information globally
* Demonstrated area leader with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Experienced with manufacturing processes such as, but not limited to die casting, heat treatment, machining, powdered metal processing, etc
* A proven track record in Project Management; You are familiar managing New Product Development projects within a Stage Gate Process, are highly organized, and comfortable reporting out to management.
* Computer Literacy; proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Strong 2D/3D CAD skills (Catia preferred), PLM software (Windchill preferred). Experience with FEA software also preferred.
* Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2009.
* A demonstrated ability to dissect a problem to find the root cause, design robust solutions, and create an effective and fast test method to prove out the fix.
* Experience in managing Quality through use of statistical tools, process capability, DOE s, and tolerance stack-ups.
* A Desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, where design cycles are generally less than 2 years
* Possible international travel to visit manufacturing locations (post-COVID)
