POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Flow Cytometry Core Facility is a shared resource laboratory serving a large number of the research laboratories on the campus of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The facility houses and operates a large collection of advanced instruments for analytical flow cytometry and fluorescence activated cell sorting. Currently, the laboratory is staffed by two full time faculty and one senior technician who carry out supervision and training of a user base consisting of >600 scientists, and assist the facility clients by carrying out procedures such as high speed cell sorting, experimental design, data analysis. The technician B’s main responsibility is maintain and operate simple to moderate flow cytometry equipment and assist in many aspects of the routine operation of the core laboratory.
The person will:
Operation and maintain of Flow Cytometers
Maintain service logs and arrange for instrument repairs or service when needed.
Occasionally analyze data related to the existing protocol.
Require occasional guidance;
Occasionally be responsible for ordering routine supplies;
Rarely modify technical procedures;
Rarely train other lab members;
Rarely guide other lab members;
A simple / limited understanding of scientific literature and the research goals and rationale is required;
Occasionally analyze data;
Rarely interpret data;
Rarely make written contributions to papers and grant proposals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required to have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related science or equivalent skills and related experience, and zero to two years of related experience.
BS Degree in Biology or other Medical/Life Sciences-related field preferred.
Previous Flow Cytometry knowledge and working experience preferred.
