Lynker is seeking an outstanding Scientific Programmer / Analyst for Atmospheric Physics, to manage and integrate physics parameterizations in the Common Community Physics Package ( ) for the Unified Forecast System ( ). The CCPP-physics contains the parameterizations and suites that are used by the UFS applications.
Duties of the Scientific Programmer / Analyst for Atmospheric Physics will include the Following:
Managing CCPP-physics code repositories at NOAA’s Environmental Modeling Center (EMC).
Integrating new and updated physics parameterizations into the CCPP.
Supporting the testing, debugging, evaluation and research-to-operation transition of physics parameterizations in the UFS applications.
Participating in the development of community-based CCPP framework and CCPP physics parameterizations.
Participating in the development of the UFS and ensuring the consistency between physics and dynamics and other components in the UFS.
Working with external collaborators to develop and improve atmospheric physics parameterizations and accelerate research-to-operation transition processes.
The Scientific Programmer / Analyst for Atmospheric Physics selected should have the Following Qualifications:
Advanced skills and knowledge of modern programming languages, such as FORTRAN90 and Python.
Advanced skills and knowledge of High Performing Computing on various platforms using MPI, OpenMP, Slurm, LSF, etc.
Advanced knowledge of modern software development practices and version control software, in particular Git/GitHub/Gitflow.
Advanced knowledge of atmospheric physics parameterizations.
Advanced knowledge of earth system modeling.
Experience working in a UNIX environment with advanced shell scripting languages
Ability to perform complex work in a fast-paced environment
The Ideal Scientific Programmer / Analyst for Atmospheric Physics selected will have the Following Qualifications:
Experience with the CCPP and the UFS applications.
Experience with the development of physics parameterizations.
Experience with the development of earth system models.
Familiarity with agile software development and CI/CD DevOps practices
