Job Title: Senior SDET – Manual QA for OTT Applications (SmartTV Platforms)

About the Role
We are seeking a meticulous and hands-on Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to lead manual QA testing efforts for our client's high-performance OTT (Over-the-Top) video streaming applications. The platforms include SmartTVs, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, and gaming consoles.
You'll work directly with product and engineering teams to validate and ensure a world-class streaming experience for millions of global users consuming premium video content.
Note: Candidates must be commutable to Manhattan Beach, CA – this is an onsite/hybrid role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute manual QA testing for Smart TV and streaming platforms (Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Xbox, PlayStation, etc.)
- Own and evolve the QA strategy, test cases, and test plans across multiple platforms and releases.
- Identify, log, and track bugs using tools like JIRA, TestRail, or equivalent.
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and UI/UX designers to ensure top-tier app performance.
- Analyze logs, crashes, and error reports for triaging issues quickly and accurately.
- Perform exploratory, regression, smoke, and functional testing across device platforms.
- Help maintain a high bar for user experience and app stability.
- Work closely with offshore QA teams (if applicable) and guide junior testers.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on QA testing experience, with at least 3 years testing Smart TV or OTT platforms.
- Deep understanding of manual QA methodologies, test case creation, defect tracking, and platform-specific behaviors.
- Experience with video streaming, media playback, DRM, and adaptive bitrate streaming (HLS/DASH) is a strong plus.
- Experience testing apps on Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, and/or game consoles.
- Familiarity with tools like Charles Proxy, adb, Xcode, Android Studio, and console debuggers.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Bonus: Knowledge of automation frameworks (e.g., Appium, WebDriverIO) or scripting (Python/JavaScript) for future test automation.
