Great opportunity in the Utility Industry within the Electric Distribution side of the business: The reporting team is looking for a strong candidate that will work with team members and the broader distribution organization developing and modeling complex business information and data discovering insights through statistical, algorithmic and visual techniques. The position needs a ‘data mining player’ and be prepared to assist in data standardization, in depth analysis opportunities in building and implementing data visual reporting and models for ‘big data’. This role will develop tools to streamline processes and create documentation to support knowledge sharing and clear traceability of the data. Expected Start Date: ASAP Long term internship with potential to continue into the fall. The work schedule is full-time (40 hours/week)in the summer and part-time (20hours/week) during the school year. Open to applicants in the Minneapolis/Edina, MN area and Denver/Boulder,CO metro areas. Graduating Seniors (spring 2021) are not eligible for an internship. During COVID-19, this position will require the ability to work remotely within Xcel Energy’s service territory until the company’s protocol indicates return to the workplace has been approved. Work location(s): Edina Service Center: 5309 W. 70th St. Edina, MN 55435 or Valentia Service Center: 2070 South Valentia Street, Denver, CO 80231 Essential Responsibilities – Data Wrangling/Exploration: Follow consistent practice to ensure data integrity and deal with imperfections of the data. Research opportunities for the acquiring the data from new sources and enhance the value of the information to fill gaps. Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure solid data understanding and proper data transformation. (30%) – Strategist: Work cross-functionally with business partners and peer teams, analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns, draw conclusions and gain actionable insights. (20%) – Communications and Relationship Building: Interact with team and business partners and effectively communicate information; develop strong relationships with individuals inside and outside of direct team. (20%) – Data Visualization: Create meaningful data visualization to communicate results and highlight business impact, utilize various techniques and delivery methods of visualization that are audience appropriate. (10%) – Gain familiarity with systems, tools and processes used with the Distribution Operations organization (5%) – Perform special projects as needed(5%) Minimum Requirements – Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university. – Pursuing a degree focused on Science, Technology or Mathematics such as: data science, computer science, computer information systems, mathematics, statistics, or similar. – Problem solving skills, business acumen and demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. – Self-motivated with the ability to work independently on tasks. – Must be proficient with Excel, Strong SQL, Python skills, DAX, data visual skills, Power BI, knowledge of data architecture and structure, experience with machine learning, statistical modeling and predictive modeling.
