Summary: Computational Biology and Data Sciences (CBDS), a part of GDDEI, has a primary responsibility of discovering novel targets through integrative analyses of transcriptomic, genetic, and real-world datasets; improve the understanding of disease biology in key pathways by working closely with Therapeutics Areas and Discovery scientists. CBDS contributes to an accelerated pipeline portfolio by applying appropriate genomic studies, computational approaches, and machine learning/AI to target validation, disease models, mechanism of action, and biomarker discovery (with Lead Generation & Pharmacology, Discovery Biotherapeutics, and other functions). CBDS also supports key external opportunities to gain therapeutic insights, support due diligence for assets identified by External Innovation, and collaborate with enabling technology leaders to stay competitive. Reporting to the Head of CBDS, the Associate Director of Bioinformatics is responsible for developing and implementing the data-drive target discovery strategy, championing the use of transcriptomics and proteomic profiling in advancing targets and molecules, such target validation, mechanism of action, animal models, and biomarkers. Responsibilities: – Partner and support the therapeutic areas of interest (RM & MH, Gastroenterology, Uro-oncology, Discovery immunology) new target efforts, and the emerging portfolio. – Implement state of the art of single cell NGS data analysis pipeline, acquire and process all relevant transcriptomic datasets (including scRNA-seq); develop or acquire interactive data visualization interfaces (e.g., Single cell explorer) to enable TA scientists to browse key scRNAseq datasets. – Champion the use of transcriptomics and proteomic profiling in advancing targets and molecules, such target validation, mechanism of action, animal models, and biomarkers. Liaise with Therapeutics Areas, Lead Generation & Pharmacology, Discovery Biotherapeutics, and Discovery Immunology to understand their needs, assist RNAseq experiment design, develop appropriate analysis plans, and work with CROs ensure the timely delivery of data and analysis results. – Develop and maintain the Ferring target knowledgebase that integrates transcriptomics, pathway, human genetics, animal models, draggability, and other data to generate therapeutic hypothesis and inform decision making from Target Selection to NME. – Supervise and mentor junior member(s) of the team to enable successful scientific contributions to GDDEI organization. – Work closely with Research IT and Data Engineering with CBDS to assess technology infrastructure relevant to bioinformatics by identifying areas of strength, weakness and gaps; share assessment and recommendations with relevant stakeholders; drive AWS cloud computing project, and explorer specialize platforms. Requirements: – PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational biology, Genetics, Biostatistics, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or a relevant scientific field – 10 years plus experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, or research organization with direct experience in the field of computational biology and/or data sciences after completing a doctoral degree. – Hands-on NGS (RNAseq, single-cell NGS, whole genome, exome, miRNA, or microbiome) data processing and analysis. – Experience in biological pathways, data visualization, network and systems biology (IPA, KEGG, GSEA, GeneGO, Cytoscape, Reactome). – Proficiency using R and Bioconductor packages and one or more programming language (Python, Perl, and Javascript). – Experience working with Linux environment, high-performance computing clusters, and cloud computing. – A strong publication record within his/her expertise area is expected. – AI or ML experience is desirable. – Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various functional areas We are proud to be an Affirmative Action/EEO Employer.
