The Associate Scientist II candidate will join the Exploratory Biology group within Biologics Discovery to support all therapeutic areas (TA) at Janssen Biotherapeutics (JBIO). This person will be part of a team validating novel targets, including complex membrane ones, to support pre-clinical research. Primary responsibilities will include: validation of new targets, developing assays to characterize targets, performing functional assays for in vitro pharmacology. Experience in cell culture and functional assays in oncology and immunology, flow cytometry is required. The successful candidate needs to have a strong ability to connect with other colleagues in JBIO and TA partners in a collaborative environment. The successful candidate is expected to present scientific results to multidisciplinary teams. Primary Responsibilities (Include, But Are Not Limited To): Design, perform, and interpret in vitro and ex vivo experiments to validate targets and novel drug concepts. Relevant assays and skills include: cell culture, transfection and transduction, various immunobinding assays (including ELISA, MSD, flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation, Western blot, etc), antibody internalization, and various functional assays (especially those pertaining to immunology and oncology). Experience handling human blood and primary immune cells is preferred. Analyze and present data in professional ‘publication ready’ format. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and manage multiple experiments simultaneously. Keep up-to-date with the literature in his/her field. Demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication. Qualifications Master’s Degree in life sciences (molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, oncology, pharmacology or a related discipline) OR a Bachelor’s Degree in life science with 5 years of experience is required. Experience in multi-color flow cytometry is required. Experience in immunobinding assays and cell-based functional assays is required Experience working with primary immune cells or blood specimens is preferred.
