In the Protein Engineering team, we aim to understand the structure and function of complex molecules such as antibodies and cytokines in order to optimize their utility as therapeutic agents. We closely collaborate with protein and antibody scientists in the Discovery Biotherapeutics department, as well as with Biology, Bioinformatics, Pharmacology and Translational Biology scientists within the Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center to discover the new wave of cancer immunotherapeutics. Position Summary We are seeking a dependable, motivated and detail-oriented Associate Scientist/Scientist to join the Protein Engineering team and support the design, expression, purification and biophysical characterization of novel protein-based therapeutics. This is an ideal position for a researcher who is enthusiastic about science and innovation and wants to learn about drug development. The selected individual is expected to work independently with minimal supervision to generate high-quality proteins and carry out protein-based assays. Responsibilities – Support team members in the protein design efforts for exploratory and late-stage drug discovery programs – Carry out all the steps for protein production, including generation of constructs for protein expression, protein expression at different scales, protein purification and characterization – Implement and troubleshootprotein purification workflows – Perform protein assays – Interpret data and present results in team meetings – Maintain a thoroughly documented ELN – Maintain updated reagent inventories – Support lab infrastructure – Follow laboratory safety guidelines and practices Requirements – BS/MS degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related fields – 4+ years of academic or industry experience in protein expression, purification and characterization – Proficiency with current molecular biology techniques – Extensive experience with transfection techniques for protein expression in mammalian cells at 0.1-5-liter scale – Extensive experience with chromatography techniques (affinity, gel chromatography, ion exchange) for protein purification at analytical and preparative scale – Experience with gel and capillary electrophoresis – Proficiency with MS Office – Attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and accurate documentation of results – Ability to work collaboratively, perform at a high level in a matrixed team environment, with flexibility to navigate dynamic project goals Preferred additional skills – Experience with antibody expression and analysis – Working knowledge of bioinformatics tool for protein sequence analysis – Proficiency with techniques for protein-protein interaction analysis (BLI, SPR, ITC) – Experience in SEC-MALS, mass spectrometry and other techniques for structural analysis of proteins (crystallography, NMR) – Experience in display workflows (phage, yeast or mammalian) for protein evolution – Experience in a range of expression systems (bacteria, insect cells, ) Level will be commensurate with experience Bristol-Myers Squibb recognizes the importance of balance and flexibility in our work environment.
