Job Description Summary
This position reports to the Supervisor of Quality ( Chemistry ). The role contributes to setting the tactics required to achieve departmental and plant/business objectives. Through outstanding communication; effective problem solving and active management of ambiguous situations; Chemical Engineer I ensures product safety, product quality and compliance with all relevant global regulations and customer expectations. Success is measured in terms of the frequency and scale of product quality and organizational issues. Through stakeholder engagement; and Chemistry laboratory development; the Associate Manager produces durable and industry leading results supporting key business drivers.
Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.
Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide routine guidance to Chemistry Lab Technicians, review and approve tests and paperwork, provide training on new test methods, procedures, etc.
Perform routine Chemistry testing and support the testing with the Chemistry Technicians as needed ( EO Residual, Tungsten, FTIR, Silicone Quantification and other tests in Chemistry that may support the release of product)
Research, design, and develop new production processes.
Analyze data to develop conclusions.
Creates standards and specifications for processes, products and tests.
Performs routine calibration activities.
Write, perform, and review validations for both equipment and Chemistry laboratory systems.
Create and revise procedures and other laboratory documentation.
Operate and trouble shoot all Chemistry laboratory equipment.
Write and perform investigations for laboratory out of specifications ( OOS ) and any other deviations.
Support customer and regulatory audits of the Chemistry laboratory.
Trend and analyze Chemical laboratory data.
Support LIMs ( Laboratory Information Management System ), software and its use. Understand how the software functions and the ability to ensure the system is aligned with the Chemical laboratory’s needs.
Understand budgets and ability to learn electronic system for ordering materials for the Chemical laboratory.
Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.
Bachelors Degree is required.
2-3 years in a pharmaceutical or medical device business is preferred.
2-3 years working with Chemistry laboratory equipment or similar laboratory equipment in another scientific field
