Chemical Technician / Naperville, IL Kelly Services is currently seeking a Chemical Technician for one of our top clients in Naperville, IL. Duration: 1 year Pay: $20/hr – $23/hr SUMMARY: The main function of a Chemical Technician is to conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials. A typical chemical technician is either a research technician that works in an experimental lab or a process control technician who works in a manufacturing setting. The research technician works on research and development and collects samples or produces compounds. The process control technician focuses on quality assurance and production processes. RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitor product quality to ensure compliance to standards and specifications. Set up and conduct chemical experiments, tests, and analyses using techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, physical and chemical separation techniques, and microscopy. Conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials. Compile and interpret results of tests and analyses Provide technical support and assistance to chemists and engineers. Prepare chemical solutions for products and processes following standardized formulas or create experimental formulas. Maintain, clean, and sterilize laboratory instruments and equipment. Write technical reports or prepare graphs and charts to document experimental results. Order and inventory materials to maintain supplies. REQUIREMENTS: Creativity, verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving ability. Team player and detail oriented. Basic knowledge of the chemical composition, structure and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. Basic knowledge of wet chemistry techniques: measuring, mixing, calculations, titrations, density, viscosity, etc… Candidates will be trained on atomic absorption (AA) spectrometer. If the candidate has used this instrumentation prior, that would be a plus. Candidates will be trained on bacteria count. This is a Chemistry lab, but it the candidate has a prior micro exposure, that would be a plus. Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry required. 0-2 years experience required with degree Two roles available: While the basic skills overlap, the 2 roles are slightly different: For one, we need someone who can work independently and complete the same testing day to day. This worker will support 3-4 scientists and is responsible for running tests on their samples. The scientists will direct their work, but it’s up to the candidate to manage. For the other role, the candidate will collect samples throughout the week and may work with a wider variety of departments for routine testing.
