Position_Summary Performs a full range of moderate and high complexity Blood Bank Laboratory procedures, necessitating knowledge of techniques, theory and applicable instrumentation. Performs all procedures in compliance with written SOPs and FACT, AABB, CAP and FDA regulations. Assists in teaching students and staff. Key_Responsibilities_Include * Performs routine and special tests in compliance with written procedures. * Performs a variety of complex laboratory tests and procedures according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules. Completes procedures within established turnaround times. * Reviews results for accuracy and completeness before reporting. * Notifies supervisor of unusual results or discrepancies. * Performs quality control procedures including preventive maintenance and calibrations, and records data on appropriate forms. * Documents manual testing performed as needed for billing. * Assists in training new employees, validation/evaluation of new procedures and may assist in writing and revising procedures. * Attends staff meetings and required safety training classes. * Participates in quality assurance program, performs competency testing when assigned by the Supervisor. * Maintains clean and organized work station/area. * Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality. * Qualifications Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration: * Bachelor’s Degree * One year previous hospital transfusion service, preferred Required Certification/Licensure: * California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license, required * MT(ASCP) or equivalent national certification preferred * City of Hope is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
