Clinical Research Coordinator I GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: The Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine is recruiting a Clinical Research Coordinator I. This CRC position is a full-time position and a commitment of at least two years is required. The CRC is tasked with coordinating clinical research studies involving the elucidation of neural mechanisms involved in sleep and anesthesia. The CRC’s primary responsibilities include maintaining study regulatory compliance; performing patient recruitment, cognitive testing, and data collection for electroencephalogram (EEG) and neuroimaging measurements. The CRC must be able to work effectively on a team, as well as independently. The CRC must demonstrate strong attention to detail, organizational skills and time management. Further, the CRC must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This position would be excellent preparation for someone interested in pursuing graduate or medical school, and/or interested in bioinformatics or medical device industry. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: – Collects & organizes patient data – Maintains records and databases – Uses software programs to generate graphs and reports – Assists with recruiting patients for clinical trials – Obtains patient study data from medical records, physicians, etc. – Conducts library searches – Verifies accuracy of study forms – Updates study forms per protocol – Documents patient visits and procedures – Assists with regulatory binders and QA/QC procedures – Assists with interviewing study subjects – Administers and scores questionnaires – Provides basic explanation of study and in some cases obtains informed consent from subjects – Performs study procedures, which may include phlebotomy, neuroimaging, and EEG. – Assists with study regulatory submissions – Writes consent forms – Verifies subject inclusion/exclusion criteria – Performs administrative support duties as required – Perform data analysis and QA/QC data checks – Organize and interpret data SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: – Careful attention to details – Good organizational skills – Ability to follow directions – Good communication skills – Ability to understand and follow clinical research protocols – Ability to demonstrate respect and professionalism for subjects’ and patients’ rights and individual needs – Experience with neuroscience or other biomedical field, biomedical engineering or other engineering discipline, computer science, or a related field is strongly preferred. – The applicant must be comfortable working in a hands-on and fast-paced clinical environment. – The applicant must be comfortable speaking to patients and caregivers about research. – The applicant must be able to demonstrate ability and motivation to gain new technical (i.e. programming, statistics) skills. – This position calls for independent problem-solving, flexibility to handle parallel projects, and ability to work well in an interdisciplinary team. EDUCATION: – Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in neuroscience or other biomedical field, biomedical engineering or other engineering discipline, computer science, or a related field. A Masters degree will enhance competitiveness but is not required. EXPERIENCE: – 1 to 2 years of experience would be ideal, however new graduates with relevant background in neuroscience, engineering, computer science, or related disciplines will also be considered favorably. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: – A Clinical Research Coordinator I may assist with the training and orientation of new staff members.
