The Data Scientist, Advanced Analytics spearheads to the development of computational algorithms, statistical tools, and predictive models that support 1) the measurement, evaluation, and interpretation of clinical, financial, quality, and operational performance and 2) the design, implementation, and assessment of population-based programs that enhance the precision, personalization, and cost-effectiveness of patient care. The incumbent will be self-directed and intrinsically motivated by contributing to the success of a living and breathing health network in one of the most vibrant and culturally diverse cities in the world. Candidates should be process-driven, detail-oriented, hands-on, curious, opinionated, and genuinely passionate about the translation of complex, multi-dimensional data into actionable insights. Education Required – Bachelor’s Degree in data analytics, computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or related field. Preferred – Master’s Degree in data analytics, computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or related field. Work Experience Preferred – 3-5 years data analytics Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) – Supervised modeling such as logistic regression, decision trees, SVM, neural networks. – Natural Language Processing (NLP,), text mining – Python and R, SQL-like query languages. – Deploying models using web services. – Cutting edge understanding of modern theoretical and applied statistics, predictive modeling, and the use of data mining, deep learning, and machine learning algorithms to improve clinical, financial, and operational performance – Extensive experience integrating, analyzing (descriptive and inferential), and interpreting large, complex, and longitudinal data sets that are derived from disparate and heterogeneous sources (administrative, billing, claims, clinical/EMR, laboratory, surveys, etc.) – Exceptional health care business knowledge, including health plan design, commercial and Medicare risk adjustment, and healthcare financing mechanisms under traditional fee-for-service (FFS) reimbursement, capitation and managed care, and value-based share risk/shared savings arrangements – Experiential exposure to the theory and quantitative methods underlying program monitoring and evaluation, cost-benefit/cost effectiveness analysis, return-on-investment (ROI) estimation, and risk management – Demonstrable fluency in R, SAS, and at least one additional programming language (PERL, Python, Ruby, etc.) that can be used to interrogate, mine, and visualize both structured and unstructured data – Documented expertise in SQL and related database query tools (DBeaver, SQL Developer, TOAD Data Point, etc.) that facilitate management and manipulation of data stored in traditional and cloud-based environments – Independent authorship of statistical analysis plans (SAP), industry white papers, and peer-reviewed abstracts, posters, and journal articles – Tangible managerial and leadership skills, and the ability to maintain strong working relationships at all levels of the organization – Strong leadership, managerial, and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects to deadline – Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. – Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to the role. Job Duties – Lead the design and deployment of computational algorithms, statistical methods, and predictive models that enhance the clinical, financial, quality, and/or operational performance of OHS and its partners – Head the creation and dissemination of data mining approaches that facilitate rapid, streamlined detection of outliers, novel patterns of association, and latent, causal connections in high-dimensional data sets – Serve as quantitative subject matter expert (SME) and mentor to colleagues and teammates, providing guidance related to project/program design, statistical methodology, model input/output selection, and interpretation of results – Pilot the delivery of patient-centered and personalized advanced analytics solutions that improve contract performance, program effectiveness, and clinical, financial, and utilization outcomes across the continuum of care – Develop and implement new machine learning models to be used in clinical, operational, and corporate areas – Foster meaningful, productive, and trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders through regular engagement, empathic communication, and consistent delivery of high-quality analytic work products – Author technical reports, statistical analysis plans (SAP), white papers, enterprise presentations, and peer-reviewed abstracts, posters, and journal articles – Collaborate with data management team to identify required data assets and, in turn, to automate their sourcing, integration, and analysis – Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources – Research new methods to improve machine learning algorithms – Perform studies to gain deeper understanding of how patients and employees interact with the health system – Other related duties as required The above statements describe the general nature and level of work only.
