Description :
Graduate Research Assistant GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator the Graduate Research Assistant will be working on a research project to combine the functional MRI with optogenetics and simultaneous optical fiber-mediated biosensor recordings in both rats and mice. In addition, an essential part of this project will be to develop a robust awake mouse fMRI platform for high spatiotemporal resolution fMRI brain mapping. The eligible candidate will need to perform the MRI image analysis using the Linux-based software and Matlab. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform awake mouse training for fMRI. Prepare the transgenic mouse lines with GCaMP or ChR2 expression Monitor the pupil dynamics changes of mice at different conditions Acquire the fMRI and calcium data form awake mice Analyze both fMRI and calcium data with AFNI and Matlab Establish the fMRI imaging system on the rats under different anesthesia Prepare animal protocols. Build the MRI-compatible optical fiber recording system Verify the calcium data with electrophysiological recordings. SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Animal surgeries: catheterization, craniotomy, viral injection, and perfusion, immunostaining Optical fiber-mediated biosensor recordings Functional MRI imaging of rodents Matlab and AFNI scripting Electrophysiology (Local field potential and multi-unit recordings). EDUCATION:Minimum Required: Bachelor’s Degree plus enrollment in a Master’s or PhD Program. EXPERIENCE:Required: 2 – year lab training experience on the high field MRI imaging (>9.4T animal MRI scanner). Preferred: Awake mouse training SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY Not Applicable FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Not Applicable WORKING CONDITIONS: The candidate will closely working with PI and use the 14.1 T and 9.4T horizontal MRI scanner at Martinos Center. The candidate will have his own desk space and accessibility to the facility and workshops. There is also an electrohysiological laboratory to run the in vivo recording experiments. Close to the 14.1T scanner, there is an optical imaging laboratory for the optical fiber recording. Massachusetts General Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
