This position applies advanced HSE methods and methodology to address complex challenges within the Department of Defense. Job Duties: – Conduct research on situation awareness, decision making, and performance – Design and evaluate hardware and software systems – Develop conceptual and computational models of human behavior and human performance at the individual, team, and societal levels – Identify criteria related to personnel, manpower, and training issues associated with complex systems – Perform other duties as assigned Travel Requirements 10% – 25% travel Education & Length of Experience Research Engineer/Scientist I – A Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree with one or both in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Psychology, Human Factors, or Human-Computer Interaction. Research Engineer/Scientist II – A Bachelors degree and Master’s degree with one or both in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Psychology, Human Factors, or Human-Computer Interaction and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, – A Bachelors degree and Master’s degree with one or both in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Psychology, Human Factors, or Human-Computer Interaction and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or – A Doctoral degree and Master’s degree with one or both in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Psychology, Human Factors, or Human-Computer Interaction. Required Minimum Qualifications – Experience with user-centered design – Experience with various types of cognitive task analyses, functional analyses, and job task analyses Preferred Qualifications – Experience conducting cognitive task analyses and function analyses – Experience with information architectures, wireframing, interaction design, or visual design – Experience with techniques and approaches for assessing workload, situation awareness, usability, human performance, and user acceptance – Experience with experimental design and statistics (basic descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, structural equation modeling) – Experience with Adobe Creative Suite – Experience with rapid prototyping tools – Experience writing and developing scenario simulations to support operator in the loop test and evaluation U.S. Citizenship Requirements Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
