YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE We are looking for a Lab Assistant in 3600 Eagle Nest Dr, North Building, Crete, IL 60417 USA. Your mission will be to: Purpose of Job: The incumbent is responsible for providing basic assistance to the microbiology, chemistry, and maintenance operations of the laboratory. Job Duties Maintain clean laboratory by washing countertops, sweeping floor, and storing analysis materials. Sterilize containers before washing to avoid contamination. Wash containers used in analysis and return to the laboratory for the next test. Prepare sample for analysis as instructed. Autoclave materials to sterilize for the next use. Discard waste and sterilize work area after each process. Record temperatures of incubators to create needed environment for sample. Assist other laboratory personnel performing testing procedures as instructed by the supervisor. Maintain equipment in working order to perform necessary preventative maintenance. Update logbooks and maintenance records. May be required to occasionally pick up sample from the client and deliver to the laboratory. Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities. Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process. This position has the responsibilities and authority to identify departures from the quality system or test procedures and document such observations in accordance with the prescribed complaint system. Adhere to all safety policies. Perform other related duties as needed. Responsibility to support laboratory management in the implementation maintenance, and improvement of the management system. YOUR SKILLS Knowledge & Skill Highschool diploma or GED. Entry-level position. This position requires the ability to follow specific instructions. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to enter client data. The incumbent may be required to operate company vehicle that would require the skill to operate a motor vehicle and exhibit safe driving skills. Job Complexity The incumbent performs routine tasks that follow established procedures. The incumbent uses knowledge of the area and the advice of the supervisor to solve problems. Established guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures provide information to determine the correct preparation techniques. Decision Making or Recommendations The incumbent makes decisions regarding repetitive responsibilities within the guidelines of written company policies and procedures and state/provincial driving regulations. The decisions of the incumbent affect the delivery of sample, the timeliness of analysis proceedings, the accuracy of media preparation, and the cleanliness of the laboratory. Revisions are researched and authorized by the supervisor. Accountability The incumbent receives general supervision. The incumbent is responsible for completing assigned tasks in a timely manner. The incumbent works toward specific goals and targets established by the supervisor. Tasks are completed according to Standard Operating Procedures. Modifications must be verified with the supervisor. Supervision of Others None Relationships The incumbent has limited contact with personnel outside the immediate work group. Work Environment The incumbent works in a laboratory with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. The incumbent works in a laboratory with increased temperatures near the autoclave and washer. The incumbent is required to wear masks, laboratory coat and insulated gloves when working with media. Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds is necessary when loading and preparing samples. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position.
