Description Laboratory Technicians perform a variety of analysis and tests of refinery products, process streams and environmental samples in a technically complex, highly automated refinery laboratory. Technicians will work a rotating dayevening schedule including weekends and holidays. Technicians are responsible for maintaining and operating the equipment used in testing and analysis Responsibilities May Include Laboratory Technician may be responsible for: – Performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment. – Performing various quality assurance and quality control tests on productprocess samples according to written procedures. – Perform process, regulatory, and product certification testing using approved methods. Such testing must be completed accurately, efficiently and timely. – Setting up and developing procedures for various instrumentation and testing processes. – Reviewing data using lab information management system. – Interpreting data and analyzing validity. – Running typical QAQC charts to interpret trends and quality of results. – Documenting and recording findings according to established procedures. – Occasionally required to work outdoors with exposure to weather elements; some lifting is required. – Being aware and observing safe work practices including donninguse of personal protective equipment. Position Requirements BasicRequired: Must be legally authorized to work in the posting country. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent At least 18 years of age or older. Must have ability to readinterpret technical and job related materials in English. Must be willing and able to lean computer software associated with laboratory testing. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation to perform and comply with: Work a 12-hour rotating shift including weekends, holidays, daynight rotation, and overtime. Work overtime and be on an on-call basis, as assigned. Work around chemicals including acids and bases. Wear Nomex fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment such as steel-toed shoes, eareye protection, hard hat, chemical gloves, etc. Maintain clean shaven face each day to assure respiratorface mask can properly seal. Perform firefighting andor emergency response duties, as needed. Work in and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Work with hydrocarbons under high pressure andor heat. Lift up to 50 pounds, as needed. Must satisfy physical criterion for the position (may include walking, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and stooping), including serving on and maintaining emergency response responsibilities and associated training requirements. Must successfully complete and pass skills assessment and functional capability (physical agility) testing. Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Previous refining andor petrochemical experience. Knowledge of applicable ASTM, EPA, Federal, State, County regulatory requirements. Previous experience andor ability to learnperform all procedures used in a Quality Control Lab for product testing. Demonstrated communications skills (verbalwritten) and previous experience working in team environment Previous SAP experience The San Francisco Refinery consists of two facilities linked by a 200-mile pipeline. The Santa Maria facility is located in Arroyo Grande, California, 200 miles south of San Francisco, California, while the Rodeo facility is in the San Francisco Bay Area. Semi-refined liquid products from the Santa Maria facility are shipped by pipeline to the Rodeo facility for upgrading into finished petroleum products. Facilities include crude distillation, naphtha reforming, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units, as well as a calciner. The San Francisco Refinery processes a mixture of heavy, high sulfur and light sweet crude oil. It receives California crude oil by pipeline, and both domestic and foreign crude oil by tanker. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. It also produces CARB-grade gasoline. Other products include petroleum coke. The majority of the refined products are distributed to California by pipeline and barge. Additional refined products are also exported to Latin America by waterborne cargo.
