Work Shift: DAY Work Week: M F Job Summary JOB SUMMARY At Houston Methodist, the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Analyst is responsible for providing assistance in the development, implementation and support of information system projects. This position requires the use of independent judgment to recognize, investigate, troubleshoot and resolve system related problems as they occur. This role maintains required documentation of activities. Maintaining knowledge of computer technology (software and hardware) through new procedure development, review of section procedure manuals and technical manuals is essential. Other duties include assisting with training staff, residents and others as assigned. PEOPLE 20% – Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team focused work unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimal department results. Collaborates with all members of the patient care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive manner. (EF) – Directly assists operators in performing their duties (troubleshooting userreport terminal or printer malfunctions, operations exceptions, recovering from system problems, etc.). (EF) – Trains students, new employees, residents, and others as assigned by Manager/Director. (EF) SERVICE 20% – Assists in the day to day operation of the LIS, middleware and interfaces implemented throughout laboratory services accurately and efficiently according to established procedures within assigned time frame. (EF) – Maintains hardware, software, and databases used in the lab. Coordinates routine equipment preventive maintenance and minor repairs. (EF) QUALITY/SAFETY 20% – Monitors system performance, recognizes and resolves problems, troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment/software, and uses alternate methods where available with minimum supervision. (EF) – Performs system investigation in response to identified occurrences. (EF) – Maintains accurate and organized documentation in compliance with guidelines set by regulatory bodies. (EF) – Compiles and reviews quality data as it relates to LIS functions and submits for assessment by Medical Laboratory Scientist Specialists and/or management as needed. Oversees section compliance by reviewing and responding to CAP Accreditation Checklists questions/findings regarding LIS. (EF) FINANCE 15% – Performs validation process to ensure charges are mapping appropriately and submits changes as needed. (EF) – Adjusts work schedule to accommodate departmental/organizational needs. Appropriately utilizes the time recording system. (EF) – Uses resources efficiently’ does not waste supplies. Utilizes all available work time by assisting others and performing additional tasks. (EF) GROWTH/INNOVATION 25% – Performs assigned tasks related to system implementation/validation or application and system upgrades, including but not limited to middleware, hot fixes and new tests and/or interfaces. (EF) – Creates reports as needed for quality management and process improvement. (EF) – Assists with LIS tasks, including but not limited to, data storage management, interface management, operating system upgrades, software upgrades, hardware upgrades and new instrument implementation involving IT across multiple departments. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS – Graduate of education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS – Three years of Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician experience in laboratory setting CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED – Must have one of the following required certifications: – Certified as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician or categorical certification by Board of Certification (ASCP) – Certified as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician by American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED – Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations – Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security – Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and coworkers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles – Knowledge of the Laboratory Information Systems from the lab user perspective – Knowledge of the functional discipline of the work area – Knowledge of work area processes and procedures – Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships as required in the operating environment – Skill in planning and organizing the work area – Ability to analyze and solve problems Equal Employment Opportunity Houston Methodist is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
