Centers Laboratory of New Jersey is currently searching for a Lab Technical Operations Director for our Laboratory in Cedar Knolls, NJ. Position Title: Laboratory Director Reports to: General Manager Position Summary: The Laboratory Director is responsible for core lab operations in a high-volume clinical reference laboratory. He/she will manage the day-to-day laboratory operations which includes the general technical supervision and development of laboratory supervisors. Assures that quality standards are being met, provides technical expertise to the laboratory and as needed, serves as the liaison to various internal and external entities. The Laboratory Director ensures that the laboratory and the laboratory staff is in compliance with all laws and regulations that are required by CLIA, CAP, OSHA and any other applicable legislative organizations. Team Lead responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to the following: Be a proactive leader and identify opportunities and propose improvements, efficiencies and operational modification as it relates to the laboratory In conjunction with support staff maintains a process for staffing, training, evaluation of competency and ongoing educational development. Serves as a technical resource for problem solving and process improvement to ensure accurate test performance and meets all quality goals. Investigates and documents non-conforming events as necessary. Resolve all technical problems with the aid of the technical staff and ensures that remedial action is taken whenever a test deviates from the laboratory’s performance standards Identify and understand regulatory requirements to ensure the laboratory is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations pertinent to the management of the laboratory, including applicable CLIA, CAP, NY State. Supports, implements, and ensures compliance with all department and company policies and procedures. Monitors and ensures implementation of goals to meet established quality assurance, quality control, quality improvement plans and turnaround time. Responsible for scientific oversight of the laboratory including review/approval of all SOP’s. Evaluates equipment and supply needs of the laboratory. Assure proper ordering of supplies and monitors supply usage and variances. Provide technical supervision of the laboratory and is accessible to the laboratory personnel to provide on-site, telephone or electronic consultation. Demonstrate the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Possess effective management abilities so as to supervise department staff Perform all responsibilities independently with no direct supervision required Perform all other duties as assigned Competencies: Must have proven leadership, interpersonal, communication, computer and technical skills in the specialty area being supervised. Knowledge of medical laboratory principles, standards, applications and tests Knowledge of medical laboratory safety, cleanliness and infection control policies and regulations Knowledge of medical laboratory equipment uses and maintenance Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA regulations Demonstrated leadership ability, strength and diplomacy Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Critical thinking with efficient and effective problem-solving skills. Ability to manage and execute multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Ability to work well in a team environment that promotes inclusiveness and communication among team members. Education and Experience: Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or related Life Science. Masters preferred 10 years of laboratory experience. 5 or more years of management experience Certification and Licensure: MT ASCP preferred NY State License preferred Work Environment: Environmentally controlled laboratory environment Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations Frequent exposure to body fluids Possible exposure to infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a laboratory environment Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate such as lab coats, face shields, gloves and masks Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members and other customers Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, grasping, carrying and speaking Occasional sitting, reaching, bending and stooping Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds, with assistance if needed Frequent use of computer, keyboard, phone, and copy and fax machine as needed ABOUT US: Centers Health Care is a fully integrated post-acute care continuum offering rehabilitation and skilled nursing services in more than 45 locations covering four states.
