Job Overview We are looking for a Metallurgist to join the technical team in Houston. This individual will be primarily responsible for the development, characterization, and sustaining of low-melting-point, bismuth- based alloys for BiSN downhole sealing technology. The work includes the following: Business Development Manager performs many of the following tasks: – Understanding the downhole environment, and BiSN plug design and setting process, as it pertains to the material properties required – Using literature research and software (Thermo-Calc) to find, create, and evaluate new alloy formulations – Defining and conducting tests to characterize the properties of possible alloy candidates. – Overseeing testing program including creep and tensile testing and effect of aging on microstructure and properties – Supporting New Product Development projects, including analysis of failed alloy parts, review and analysis of material characterization test results, and formulating and communicating guidelines for use of alloys in BiSN products – Reporting and communicating research results to the technical manager – Defining equipment needs – Developing criteria, methods, and processes for alloys and alloy parts quality assurance. – Assisting in post-test analysis of thermite – Working with external partners (e.g., 3rd party labs, or universities) for access to expertise or equipment when outside of BiSN capabilities – Interacting with clients and writing and verbally communicating reports Requirements: – Bachelor’s or higher degree in Metallurgy – Working knowledge of, and be capable of using/conducting/supervising: sample sectioning/ mounting/polishing, optical microscopy, SEM/EDS/EDX/XRF/OES, melting and casting practices, and failure/defect characterization and analysis – Experience with low melting point casting alloys, creep testing, aging, and non-ferrous alloys is desired – Experience with welding of steel alloys, and with refractory materials is a plus – 5 to 10 years’ experience is desired – Good organizational and verbal/written communication skills – Authorized to work in US without restriction A strong work ethic is expected of all employees.
