The Department of Health, Bureau of Laboratories (BOL) plays a critical role in the prevention and control of infectious diseases affecting citizens of Pennsylvania. As a public health supervisor, Microbiologist 3, you will oversee a team that performs clinical and animal testing using molecular and conventional protocols for the detection of public health infectious agents such as tuberculosis and rabies virus. You will need to be available to supervise testing during response to public health emergency events, pandemics and after-hour testings. You will facilitate the implementation of tests for new emerging public health agents. You will be responsible for monitoring CLIA compliance in quality assurance and quality control policies such as ensuring proficiency testing and competency assessments completion. You will supervisor and coordinate the training of Section’s staff members and establish priorities, assign staff duties, monitor and review work and reports for accuracy and completeness, and delegates appropriate activities to subordinates. You will determine equipment, reagent and supply needs, order or delegates ordering authority and monitors usage of such materials. You will perform employee performance reviews. You will perform reviews and revise quality assurance and laboratory safety related policies and procedures and verifies that all work is conducted in compliance with appropriate state and federal regulations. You will provide customer service and education pertaining to laboratory testing to our Department of Health internal and external partners.
