Microbiology Lab Technician (Baltimore, MD) Location North America, USA, Maryland, Baltimore Job Reference DETECTIONNA00579 Job Type Full Time Job Function Research & Development Job Description Smiths Detection is seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Technician to work on Food Safety Team. The position will play a role in assisting in the development and certification of assays to detect food pathogens. Our ideal candidate will be extremely detailed oriented and highly organized, be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and possess a general understanding of Microbiology concepts with a familiarity with associated laboratory instrumentation. Duties & Responsibilities Perform routine testing on samples in a microbiology laboratory setting. Daily performance of bacterial culture maintenance, microbiological media preparation, and sample preparation. Develop and follow SOPs. Document all testing in an efficient and organized manner. Accurately record observations and data, and interpret results. Assist Laboratory manager in inventory management and ordering. The Individual Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in biology or microbiology. Working knowledge of FDA-BAM methods and microbiology media preparation. Ability to perform general laboratory and aseptic techniques, including but not limited to pipetting, plate streaking, bacterial enumeration, etc. 1 – 2 years of experience working within an industry microbiology laboratory required; experience working in an academic microbiology laboratory will be accepted. Ability to work in BSL-2 laboratory. Experience accurately recording data. Demonstrated abilities to work independently. Excellent collaboration, organizational, communication (oral and written) and multitasking skills. Willingness to work flexible hours to meet project timelines.
