Position Summary: The successful candidate will provide primary technical support in the areas of microbiology and must be capable of working in multiple areas in a fast-paced laboratory environment. The incumbent will provide backup support in immunology. The incumbent will support the laboratory mission of commitment to providing customer-oriented, comprehensive, and progressive diagnostic services to clinicians, investigators, referring veterinarians, and animal owners in Wisconsin and nationally. The Clinical Pathology Laboratory supervisor provides limited supervision. In addition to primary work hours, the incumbent will provide occasional out-of-hour/on-call coverage as needed. Experience in clinical microbiology is a plus, but not required. Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience: The candidate must have education, training, and experience in the field of microbiology; knowledge of principles and procedures used in microbiology and laboratory safety; knowledge of and ability to operate a variety of modern clinical laboratory instrumentation to include performance of maintenance procedures; and knowledge of quality control and quality assurance practices and procedures. The successful candidate will have effective communication, organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills and be able to work as an effective team member. Additional Information: Excellent oral and written communication skills are desired to communicate effectively with supervisor and colleagues. 1-2 years clinical veterinary microbiology experience preferred. Must be able to provide support for out-of-hour, on-call coverage as needed. Quality and Safety Performance Expectations a. Acknowledge documents as assigned. b. Perform document reviews as assigned. c. Write new SOPs or revise SOPs as assigned. d. Complete training required and update training records as needed. e. Perform duties as assigned (calibration, PM, cleaning, function check activities). f. Monitor controls for assays performed and maintain quality control records for duties assigned. g. Participate in corrective and preventative action plan activities where appropriate and problem solve as part of the improvement process. h. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. i. Use proper safety equipment. j. Stay current on all safety training. k. Participate in Quality or Safety team duties as assigned.
