Company Overview Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Recognizes safety hazards and complies with all safety practices and protocols. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Collects and processes lab specimens and performs clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. May collect and manage samples of blood and other fluids from patients as needed. Demonstrate skill in use of equipment relevant to position. Demonstrates critical and independent judgement in decision-making and problem-solving. Demonstrates personal commitment to the principles, values, and ethics of the organization to promote a positive work environment. Seeks personal learning opportunities. Performs other related duties as assigned. MLT: Associates degree in Laboratory Science required. Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. MLS: Bachelor’s degree in laboratory or biological sciences required. Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be registry eligible. Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. – Perform routine standardized clinical diagnostic tests in a medical laboratory – Providing laboratory information to coworkers – Perform laboratory testing of patient specimens in one or more sections of the laboratory – Perform laboratory testing of patient specimens in one or more sections of the laboratory – Lead the daily activities of the assigned laboratory section/staff – Perform basic patient monitoring activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) – Perform routine laboratory tests in various sections of the laboratory under the supervision of a medical technologist/medical laboratory scientist – Perform clinical laboratory testing and other necessary duties to keep the department – Perform routine clinical pathology testing appropriate to cytogenetic laboratory services under occasional guidance – Reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures – Obtain all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection – Perform clinical testing within regulatory guidelines – Perform simple to complex clinical laboratory tests in one or more sections of the laboratory – Participate and advance quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in the clinical laboratory – Maintain required records documentation per individual laboratory protocol – Possess laboratory education from an accredited educational institution – Perform scientific work in the laboratory for a wide variety of laboratory procedure using both manual and automated methods – Provide guidance/ serve as resource for laboratory assistants – Perform routine and stat clinical pathology testing appropriate to the laboratory discipline, records results, and assure timely delivery of results – Process patient samples using appropriate laboratory protocol, inclusive of laboratory safety protocol Recommended skills Health Technology Laboratory Information Management Systems Medical Laboratory Medical Technologist
