Description :
Postdoctoral Fellow -Protein Aggregation in Neurodegenerative Diseases TSE/Prion Biochemistry Section Rocky Mountain Laboratories Division of Intramural Research National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) National Institutes of Health (NIH) Hamilton, Montana Postdoctoral Fellow -Protein Aggregation in Neurodegenerative Diseases The TSE/Prion Biochemistry Section, NIAID, has strong basic and translational research programs aimed at understanding the structures and activities of protein aggregates in neurodegenerative diseases. For example, we are developing ultrasensitive RT-QuIC seed amplification assays for aggregates that underpin the pathogenesis of diseases (such as prion, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and related diseases). Such biomarker assays can markedly facilitate structural comparisons, accurate diagnostics, and the development of therapeutics for these diseases. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in molecular aspects of neurodegenerative protein misfolding diseases. The laboratory provides a rich training environment in protein biochemistry, cell biology, and the use of animal models, with access to cutting-edge scientific techniques, including protein purification, RT-QuIC assays, cryo-electron microscopy, FTIR and CD spectroscopies, and drug discovery. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. obtained within the last five years. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and/or neurology. Candidates should have a publication record in peer-reviewed journals. We are looking for candidates with excellent writing and communication skills who are able to work both independently and with other members in a productive team. Applicants should send a short statement of their research goals, curriculum vitae (CV), bibliography, and the names and contact information of three references to Dr. Byron Caughey ( ) . Underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged to apply. NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community through its training and employment programs. Visit NIAID Careers for more information about working in NIAID’s dynamic atmosphere. HHS, NIH, and NIAID are equal opportunity employers. Education Requirement: Ph.D. or M.D. External job URL:
