There is an urgent need to transdisciplinary approaches to better understand the metabolic impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID). Metabolomic discovery and validation approaches, such as those carried out in Dr. Chilton’s laboratory, offer an important opportunity to not only diagnose COVID but also determine at an early stage what health outcomes will likely be for individual patients. The successful candidate will coordinate research on COVID positive plasma samples in three cohorts. More specifically, this individual would coordinate collection of cohorts, process and run samples by mass spectrometry, and work with the Data Science Institute to carry out high resolution statistical and network analyses. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and will work independently conducting interdisciplinary research utilizing mass spectrometry and high resolution statistical and network analyses. Coordinate studies which utilize 3 cohorts of COVID positive plasma samples. Analyze untargeted and targeted metabolomic/lipidomic data. Carry out targeted metabolomic/lipidomic assays to quantify levels of biomarkers. Apply machine learning and multivariate statistical methods to identify altered metabolites and dysregulated pathways. Process mass spectrometry data. Work with collaborators both inside and outside UA. Authors or collaborates on articles in peer-reviewed journals. Participates/presents at conferences. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D in a related field.
