To learn more, please visit us at What we want The Zarin Lab studies the neural circuits underlying locomotion using Fruit Fly as model organism. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to this goal by performing perturbation experiments on premotor and motor neurons, performing calcium imaging from neurons and muscles, performing data analysis using MATLAB and/or Python programming languages, preparing manuscripts of research for publication, and participating in the training of students in the laboratory. Required Education: Appropriate PhD in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics or other related field Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others Strong written and verbal communication skills Preferred Education and Experience: PhD in Biology In-vivo and/or in-vitro work on neurons, experience with in vivo calcium imaging Genome editing (CRISPR technology) , confocal microscopy Quantitative microscopy image analysis, Large-scale analysis of animal behavior Familiarity with optogenetic tools, data analysis using MATLAB and/or Python programming languages Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Data analysis using MATLAB and/or Python programming languages Knowledge of locomotor behaviors and motor neuron disorders Responsibilities: Research Experiments – Conduct research on development and function of sensory-motor circuits in larval Drosophila melanogaster and keep accurate records of experiments and results. Documentation – Writing of manuscripts, preparing figures, and contributing to grant proposals. Training – Train undergraduate and graduate students doing research in the lab Presentation – Present research, present research in lab meeting, journal clubs, and national and international meetings Lab Duties – Maintain a safe working environment, help in maintaining equipment, and ensure BSL1 laboratory requirements.
