What You’ll Be Doing: We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled synthetic chemist to join Discovery Chemistry as a postdoctoral fellow in Boston. As a member of the medicinal chemistry group, you’ll be responsible for the development of new synthetic methods to enable access to pharmaceutically relevant and bioactive structures. You will rely heavily on the use of high-throughput experimentation (HTE) and enabling technologies, specifically electrochemistry, photoredox, and the combination thereof, in order to invent and optimize new chemical transformations. You will collaborate with Chemistry Capabilities Accelerating Therapeutics (CCAT) in Kenilworth, including travel where appropriate. You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate collaboration, and will be expected to deliver high-quality peer-reviewed publications and present externally at chemistry conferences . Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Lead the invention and optimization of new methods for the preparation of pharmaceutically relevant building blocks and/or bioactive structures Learn and state-of-the-art enabling technologies, specifically HTE, electrochemistry, photoredox, and the combination thereof Disciplined decision making, strategic thinking, and creative problem solving Present ideas and results both internally and externally (conferences), and network with colleagues and build efficient working relationships with CCAT, analytical chemistry, and modeling & informatics What You Need: Candidates must currently hold a PhD OR receive a PhD by fall of 2021. Experience of all techniques associated with modern organic synthetic chemistry, including the synthesis, purification, and characterization of chemical compounds on small (milligram) and medium (gram) scale Proven ability to complete research projects, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations Strong leadership, mentorship, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills Ability to independently design experiments, interpret data, and incorporate data into new designs leading to successful experimental outcomes Functions well within multidisciplinary teams, and possesses outstanding oral and written communication skills It’s Great If You Have: Experience in the field of catalysis and reaction optimization, optionally in electrochemistry and/or photoredox Demonstrated aptitude for learning & adopting new technologies and tools Ability to anticipate the need for contingencies, and plans alternative strategies as a means of risk management Conceptualization of new ideas and project directions We are a research-driven biopharmaceutical company.
