The Premier Agent Analytics & AI team is tasked with AI (artificial intelligence), ML (machine learning), and NLP (natural language processing) across the agent business, absorbing significant amounts of data and building ML and deep learning models to drive transactions and revenue. These solutions ingest large volumes of data and process it to build and deploy massive production models that improve the home buying experience. About the role We are seeking a Principal Applied Scientist to help advance Zillow’s mission by developing highly engaging user experiences. This role will work alongside other researchers, engineers, and designers to help improve the home buying experience and drive revenue for Zillow. This scientist will operate in a novel space and craft the next generation of NLP and ML solutions that will lead our vision. As a Principal Applied Scientist, you will be encouraged to think creatively and challenge established assumptions and expectations, not by building on what we already have, but coming up with new insights that fuel innovation. You will build models and insights from data to fuel the future of Zillow’s agent business, find opportunities for innovation, and assess performance of current initiatives. This role has been categorized as a Remote position. Remote employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role. Who you are We’re looking for someone who is both a leader that empowers and guides team members, but also a roll-up-the-sleeves and get it done technical expert. More specifically, you should have the following: – 8+ years of experience with machine learning, natural language processing, or deep learning – At least 5 years in applied science/research in academia or industry – A Ph.D. in Computer Science or related domain is preferred, but not a requirement! – Outstanding communication skills and interest in collaborating with other scientists and engineers – Expertise with a high-level programming language such as Python or Java – Experience training machine learning models in frameworks like PyTorch – Experience with A/B tests, difference in differences, or switchback tests – Resourcefulness to identify challenges and formulate solutions methodically – Ability to prototype, develop, and implement new technologies – Desire to mentor more junior scientists on the team Get to know us Zillow Group, the largest portfolio of real estate brands on mobile and the web, is building a safe, on-demand real estate experience.
