Here are just a few of the things you will get to do: * The primary responsibility of this position is to further standardize existing products and to support the scale-up process of new products meeting customer specifications and performance requirements. * Assist in the creation or revision to the process or other methods of operation to increase production or improve standards to meet customers’ specifications. Improve the standardization of existing products to achieve reproducibility and an improved First Pass Yield. Create, modify and maintain standard operating procedures for existing products, product modifications and new products. * Assist in identifying and resolving problems or customer complaints. Utilize expertise to formulate hypotheses and seek or devise novel solutions to technical problems. Interpret process data trends, developmental results, and statistical analysis. * Control or operate equipment in which chemical changes or reactions take place during the processing of products and pilot scale evaluations. Read and understand batch procedures and work instructions including related MSDSs (material safety data sheets). * Coordinate with other Operators and other departments such as R & D and Analytical. * Measure, weigh, and mix chemical ingredients, according to procedure. Monitor gauges, recording instruments, flowmeters, or products to ensure that specified conditions are maintained. Adjust controls to regulate temperature, pressure, feed, or flow of liquids or gases and times of prescribed reactions, according to knowledge of equipment and processes. Make necessary adjustments on equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, or yields. * Record operational data, such as temperatures, pressures, ingredients used, processing times, or test results. Draw samples of products for the Analytical Department at specified stages so that analyses can be performed for specific chemical characteristics such as pH levels, concentrations, or viscosities. Observe safety precautions to prevent overflow, fires, explosions or spills. Inspect equipment or units to detect leaks or malfunctions, shutting equipment down if necessary. * Follow safety guidelines for handling materials and equipment with the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required. Maintain organization and cleanliness of working area and equipment to avoid contamination. FOR OPEN MINDS. Some of the traits and qualifications the ideal candidate would possess include: * A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry and 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting or chemical production facility are required. Experience must include batch production with reactors and equipment such as pumps, ovens, stirrers, and dryers. The equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. * Self-starter with an attention to detail required. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and ability to work in a team environment; exhibit a high level of persistence, motivation and initiative. * Must be willing to run processes within Production and be hands on in order to make improvements.
