Primary Purpose of the Position: Performs tasks and provides services to support the plant’s production goals, overall business plans and objectives as directed. Essential Responsible Areas: 1. Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment. 2. Supports and follows the guidelines of the food safety system. 3. Participate in maintenance planning and execution. 4. May participate in all line equipment rebuilds 5. Promotes and monitors the adherence to all procedures and practices. 6. Promotes and monitors safe work habits by plant personnel. 7. Communicate to on-coming/off-going crews about process or equipment problems. 8. Work with vendors to accomplish projects and equipment updates. 9. Participate in the coordination of down time with Production and support crews. 10. Performs quarterly, predictive, and other maintenance on production equipment, provides documentation for equipment records, special projects and line support, as required. 11. Support the SOP system by updating and writing SOP’s as needed. 12. Tracks parts usage and evaluates min/max of supplies and parts. May order and receive parts, supplies, and materials. 13. Available on call for emergency breakdowns. 14. Assist Team Members by helping them become more knowledgeable about operations and methods. Participates in training and development of other Team Members. 15. Strives to enhance the overall knowledge and performance level of self and others. 16. Troubleshoots, repairs, installs, erects, moves and/or dismantles all types of machinery and auxiliary production equipment. 17. Inspects job site and equipment to be dismantled, erected or moved; analyzes blueprints and schematics; estimates weight of loads to be handled, lifted, clearances and recommends support equipment needed. 18. Selects and transports tools, machinery, and materials needed for assignment. 19. Maintains all shop tools and equipment. 20. May be required to go to customer(s) to troubleshoot equipment and/or finished cans. 21. Initiates, reviews, and follows all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for area of responsibility. 22. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the division, the group, and the company. Includes ability to handle stress and to interact with others so as to establish and maintain a positive and productive work environment and minimize personal conflicts. 23. Regular and predictable attendance is required between the assigned start and end times of work. 24. Performs duties without posing a direct threat to anyone or to property. Direct threat is defined as a significant risk of substantial harm that cannot be eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level by reasonable accommodation. 25. Assures and maintains safe and healthful working conditions while enforcing safety rules and regulations. 26. Ability to work independently within parameters set by management. 27. Communication. Ability to communicate effectively, write effectively, read, comprehend, and follow complicated verbal and written instructions. 28. Ability to meet the knowledge, skills, abilities, physical requirements, and working conditions set forth in this position description and on the attached Physical Demands Assessment. 29. Communicates with the emergency coordinator (EC) or Environmental Focal Point/Environmental Manager (EFP/EM) regarding environmental management activities. 30. Understands and responds effectively to EC directions during emergencies by being familiar with emergency procedures, equipment, and systems, as necessary. Implements contingency plan to the level required by the position. 31. Understands, completes, and maintains environmental documentation for which the individual is trained, or as directed by the EC, EFP, or EM (i.e., inspections, labeling, record keeping, maintenance of equipment, etc.). Reports to the EC, EFP, or EM on the status of assigned responsibilities. 32. Recognizes waste streams and minimizes waste generation, through prudent use of materials, proper disposal and segregation as directed during training or by the EC, EFP/EM. Understands and practices proper accumulation and storage requirements for wastes. 33. Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes. Position Requirement & Competencies: * High School Diploma or education equivalent required. * Job-related experience for 4 years minimum. * Ability to apply independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. * Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to interact well with vendors, team members, staff, contractors, and others. * Must be able to handle sensitive related and proprietary information in a confidential manner. – Performs such individual assignments as management may direct. – Self-motivated, capable of self-supervision. – Strong organizational/planning skills and housekeeping standards. – Willing to accept a variety of assignments and shifting priorities. – Must follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in the Ball Corporation manuals. – Maintains an awareness and complies with hazardous waste management and other environmental management requirements in the workplace by attending scheduled training sessions. – Ability to arc weld, MIG weld, TIG weld, and use oxy-acetylene equipment (stainless, carbon, steel, and aluminum). – Ability to use hand and power tools. – Ability to perform basic plumbing and piping. – Ability to perform basic structural and sheet metal fabrication. – Ability to read blueprints. – Ability to use basic machine shop equipment, i.e., lathes, mills, and grinders. – Must maintain professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge, and skills. * Working knowledge of the following areas: welding, brazing, burning, bending, heat treatment of metals, shearing and drilling, machine shop theory and practices, nomenclature of assigned equipment. * Thorough understanding of the operating principles of all assigned equipment. * Possesses general carpentry skills. * Basic computer skills. – Works in a manufacturing environment. – This position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to, high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc. – Must wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices. * Works in confined area(s).
