This is a Process chemist/Process Engineer position with excellent growth opportunity for an individual interested in leading projects and/or project teams as a member of the Commercialization Engineering Team. This position is accountable for contributing to and/or leading Process Improvement, New Product Development, 6-Sigma, and Quality Investigation projects. Responsibilities Include: 1. Project Management – Ensures all assigned projects are completed in accordance with the project requests, under limited supervision. – May lead small, moderately technically challenging projects or large portions of a technically challenging large project, with limited supervision. – Establishes own timeline by required due date, with minimal or no changes made by the leader/manager – Partner with team members to execute key project deliverables. – Lead Formula One studies to ensure technology robustness for downstream development and formula robustness for production. – Frequent and direct interaction with Manufacturing, Quality, PTS, Process Systems, Technical Labs, and various support groups. 2. Technical and Professional Knowledge – Identification/assessment of technologies, paint making and testing, data analysis and application of paint formulation/knowledge to meet performance requirements. – Has broad awareness of group business knowledge and understands global impact of work decisions – Establishes and executes experiments using appropriate experimental design parameters. – Analyzes data, makes decisions based upon data, demonstrates critical thinking and recognizes anomalies. – Performs background searches on research concerns, evaluations, and pitfalls to generate solutions – Provide engineering support (DOE designs, failure mode studies, data analysis, formulation/processing recommendations, and test batch) to BTC and technical organizations throughout product development to ensure new product launch success. – Identify continuous improvement opportunities, implement and publish changes (scale-up model and procedures, processing OOA, tracking sheets, test batch process, etc.) 3. Safety and Quality – Ensure Safety, Housekeeping, and ISO practices are followed. – Maintains certification on and follows quality standards, such as ITM’s and ICM’s – Actively seeks to reduce risk through corrective action of unsafe practices. – Documents and maintains an up-to-date electronic lab notebook and project folder per/maintains ISO standards. 4. Communication – Written documentation and verbal presentation of information and the ability to adapt to various audiences. – Accurate documentation of lab results and technical information. – Communicates/interfaces with other departments, develops relationships & influences others. – Communicates work progress, status, completion, issues and suggests solutions. Basic Qualifications: – Must be at least 18 years of age – Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment visa status – Must have a BS/BA degree in Chemistry/Engineering or a BS/BA degree in Science (non-chemistry) with 2 semesters of of General Chemistry and 2 semesters of Organic Chemistry – Must have project management experience – Must have a basic knowledge of statistics and data analysis – Must have a minimum of 1 year in R & D or Operations Preferred Qualifications: – Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred – Minimum of 2 years of architectural paint formulation or processing related field is preferred – Ability to interact with all levels of technical experience is preferred Who we are At Sherwin-Williams, we’re proud of the company we keep – our family of loyal employees.
