Will lead a team to determine how learning is affected in the aged brain using a multi-pronged approach, including molecular biology, physiology, behavior, and electron microscopy. The candidate will be expected to for independent funding within 2 years of starting the position with anticipation of preparing for an independent research career. – Job Details: Responsibilities Develop and expand behavior assays, and molecular biology tools and experiments. Train graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, visiting scientists, and other research staff on behavior assays and molecular biology procedures. Participate in teaching of some lectures in areas of expertise in courses within department. Mentor undergraduate students in the lab to obtain honor theses. Assist with yearly IACUC reports and writing new IACUC protocols. Author papers and publish findings from research projects and technical developments. Actively pursue independent extramural funding sources. Required Qualifications Ph.D in Neuroscience or Molecular Biology. Five years of postdoctoral research experience in Neuroscience. Experience writing and publishing papers and at least three publications in high quality journals. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Experience training undergraduate research students in neuroscience. Knowledge about literature of synaptic ultrastructure. Experience developing and setting up behavior assays Experience in electron microscopy, immunocytochemistry, in vivo perfusion Experience with PCR, molecular cloning, and recombinant protein expression Experience designing gene modification in vivo using the CRISPR-Cas9 system Experience in hippocampal slice physiology Salary Range $70,000 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
