Full-Time Permanent Hours per Week 40 Vacancy ID NF Position ID Posting Open Date 11/11/2020 Application Deadline 11/16/2020 Open Until Filled No Proposed Start Date 08/31/2020 Position Summary The SGC-UNC is an open science research center within the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy that develops small molecule chemical probes for protein kinases, proteins involved in neurodegeneration, and proteins associated with rare diseases. We are seeking a self-motivated and experienced research associate to develop and run biochemical and cell-based assays to support optimization of chemical probes, including protein thermal stability and NanoBRET target engagement assays. The position offers an exciting opportunity to generate new research tools and data that will be made freely available to the research community. The ideal candidate must have a track record of impactful scientific contributions, outstanding communication skills, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with scientists across other disciplines. Educational Requirements Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in molecular biology, biological sciences or related field with at least 3 years of post-graduation research experience. Qualifications and Experience Demonstrated broad scientific and technical assay development expertise in the areas of molecular biology (including DNA/RNA isolation and quantitation, cloning, primer design, and quantitative PCR Q- and QRT-PCR) and cell biology (including culture of cell lines and primary cells, transfections and transductions, and cell-based reporter and functional assays) is required. In ition, proficiency with protein expression and purification, quantitative enzyme assays, immunoprecipitation, ELISA, Western blot analysis, and SDS page is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to design and execute experiments, solve problems independently, troubleshoot methods, analyze and interpret data and present results is required. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and adapt to changes in work priorities. Strong written and oral communication skills. Present data internally and contribute to external publications when appropriate. Prior experience in developing and running screening assays to support chemistry projects is highly desirable.
