The Research & Development Scientist is an associate level product development position responsible for the coordination and execution of product development efforts for Beverage and Baby product designs from concept to commercialization of innovation, renovation, cost optimization and quality initiatives. The Scientist possesses and demonstrates a solid understanding of food science, the business, operations, and the commercialization processes. You will use your knowledge base of technical principles towards creating new formulations of existing products in an environment that fosters innovation and calculated risk taking. In this role, you will report to the Senior Manager of Research and Development. Essential Responsibilities Will Include But Not Be Limited To – Project Execution (75%) – Project Planning & Management (10%) – Communication (10%) – Travel (5%) Job Complexity – With guidance, develop prototypes to support concepts and exploratory work. – Reformulate based on consumer direction. – Formulate products for scale-up. – Conduct trials in the Pilot Plant or manufacturing facility to assess manufacturing capability and consumer acceptability. – Assist in working with Technical and Business teams to identify & define product concepts and establish project objectives for one or more projects of moderate complexity and technical risk. – Demonstrated organizational and planning skills. – Can execute timelines with guidance, that contain primary as well as contingency plans. – Leverage vendor capabilities where appropriate to expand formulation possibilities, drive innovation, and/or increase speed to market. – Interface product design with various nutritional guidelines and cost constraints. – Support development to assess and implement capabilities to drive productivity and growth initiatives in key strategic areas. We Are Looking For The Following Abilities And Skills – Bachelors or higher in Food Science or related field. – Years’ Experience Required: 2-5 years of relevant experience. – General knowledge of ingredients and food systems. – Good problem -solving skills. – Can determine with guidance the root cause of a problem and execute effectively on solutions. – Demonstrated flexibility and ability to react rapidly to changes in direction. – Ability to work with support groups and to function effectively in a team environment. – Excellent analytical skills, strong attention to detail, communication, and interpersonal skills. – Passion for food science, product development and consumers as it relates to innovation for new products, line extensions, and cost savings opportunities. Working Conditions – Anticipated travel of up to 5% – 10% to locations which may include the following: – World Headquarters (WHQ) Office, Research Kitchen, Pilot Plant, and Manufacturing Plants (Campbell Soup Company (CSC), co-manufacturers and vendors). – A significant portion of the job is in the thermal production environment; thus, the work exposes the employee to heat and hot food products, coolers, and freezers requiring the use of personal protective equipment. – Ability to walk or stand up to three-quarters of the workday. – Physical ability to handle weights of up to approximately thirty pounds. – Handle allergens including diary, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, eggs and other food ingredient chemicals and allergens while wearing appropriate PPE. – Willingness and ability to taste and evaluate a wide range of food products and ingredients CSC1 The Company is committed to providing equal opportunity for employees and applicants in all aspects of the employment relationship, without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, citizenship, marital status, veteran status, disability, age, religion or any other classification protected by law.
