Description :
Research Fellow

The candidate will serve as a full-time post-doctoral fellow in the Mass General Early Brain Development Initiative (EBDI), and will report to Dr. Joshua Roffman, director of EBDI. The fellow will play a critical role in analysis of structural and functional MRI data, and related clinical and cognitive phenotypes, from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study, an NIH-funded effort to elucidate the influence of a variety of environmental and genetic factors on emergent psychopathology from age 9 and up. The ABCD cohort is also one of the largest pediatric imaging cohorts in the world and offers a unique opportunity to assess psychopathology and its risk and protective factors with data from many different levels. The fellow will work closely with Dr. Roffman to develop, implement, and publish research studies using ABCD data with a focus on prenatal and childhood factors that protect against psychopathology later in life. The successful fellow will be on a trajectory toward independent funding through an NIH K award or analogous mechanism. Must be a high performer with both the technical skills necessary for the project and the desire/ability to work with cross-disciplinary investigators. The position has a high focus on forward-moving progress. Outstanding, well developed written and verbal communication skills and problem-solving abilities are required, as is the ability to work independently.

Development and implementation of statistical analyses with ABCD data

Supervising quality control of structural (sMRI, DTI) and functional (task-based and resting-state fMRI) imaging

Attending and contributing to weekly lab meetings, have weekly individual supervision with the PI, and participate in other aspects of the academic milieu (seminars, journal clubs, etc)

Authorship of manuscripts and presentations at local and national conferences

Applying for funding to support the fellow’s independent work during and after the postdoctoral fellowship period

Contributing to imaging analyses and prepping data for manuscripts

Contributing to IRB submissions, amendments and continuing reviews as needed

PhD in related field (e.g., psychology, engineering, neuroscience) or MD with plans to become independent investigator in psychiatry, psychology, or related areas

Prior experience with designing, implementing, and analyzing structural and/or functional MRI studies

Experience with study designs related to childhood psychopathology is preferred

Experience with FreeSurfer software is encouraged

Well-organized and driven to succeed

Outstanding quantitative skills and attention to detail

Responsive to feedback

Able to multi-task, problem-solve, and manage time/work-load with minimal supervision

Excellent interpersonal communication skills, to effectively and sensitively communicate with research participants including children and family members as well as with investigators and study staff

Proficient in FreeSurfer or other brain imaging analysis software, R or analogous statistical packages, Matlab, Excel, and Powerpoint
