TheWheeler Laboratory studies Huntington’s disease and other neurodegenerativedisorders caused by unstable microsatellite repeats, with a focus on mechanismsunderlying the instability of the causative mutations. Recent findings that XDPis associated with a polymorphic hexanucleotide repeat tract (Bragg et al., 2017,PNAS 114(51):E11020-E11028)place XDP in this classof microsatellite expansion disorders. This is an exciting project that wouldbe carried out in close collaboration with Dr. Laurie Ozelius of theMassachusetts Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND) and a community ofinvestigators of the MGH Collaborative Center for XDP (CCXDP), involving molecular analyses of the XDP repeat andgenetic modifier studies in patients and in iPSC-based models. The position atthe Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, together with closeaccess to the Broad Institute and resources in the Boston area and offerunparalleled opportunity for research in a stimulating and highly collaborativetraining environment at the forefront of human genetic disease research. Thenew hire will be appointed as a Research Fellow at the Massachusetts GeneralHospital and Post-Doc at the Harvard Medical School.
