Description Postdoctoral Fellowship in Bioinformatics/ Integrative Genomics of Chronic Lung Diseases Brigham and Women s Hospital and Harvard Medical School The Channing Division of Network Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is looking for an exceptional postdoctoral fellowship candidate to join the Systems Genetics and Genomics group to advance research in respiratory disease, with a focus on bioinformatics and integrative genomics, including RNA- sequencing and single cell sequencing in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Our group has led some of the largest and most comprehensive genetic and multi- omic studies in lung diseases, including identifying novel genetic associations and performing functional studies to identify new disease pathways. Fellows will work with an interdisciplinary team, consisting of geneticists and genetic epidemiologists, biostatisticians, computational biologists, and translational scientists and clinicians. The fellow will work on one of several NIH funded projects including analysis of RNA-sequencing in more than 4000 blood samples and 1500 lung tissue samples, with corresponding clinical, imaging, and whole genome sequencing data. In addition, these projects will be generating new RNA- sequencing and single cell sequencing data in human samples and animal models. The candidate will work directly with Dr. Craig Hersh. Brigham and Women s Hospital is a Harvard Medical School affiliated institution, with over 1000 principal investigators. The Channing Division of Network Medicine is a research division within the Department of Medicine whose goal is to define the etiology and reclassify complex disease using network- and systems-based approaches. This group includes some of the largest population-based and pulmonary cohorts in the world, and an outstanding track record of mentoring. Qualifications EEO Statement Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, statistics, genetics, epidemiology, or a related quantitative field and strong programming skills in R / Bioconductor, Python, or MATLAB. Previous experience in analysis of RNA-sequencing, genetic or other -omic data is mandatory; experience in single cell RNA-seq analysis is desired. Candidates should have excellent communication (oral and written) and documentation skills, ability to adhere to reproducible research standards, and the ability to work well in teams and interact with all levels of staff. Successful candidate will have the drive to pursue new scientific questions and be readily able to learn new skills and analytic techniques. Salary is commensurate with experience. The position is available immediately.
