The Bloom Lab at the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center has an opening for a research technician to assist with studies of how mutations to viral proteins affect recognition by antibodies and immunity. In the near-term, the scientist will focus on the impact of mutations to SARS-CoV-2. This is an exciting project that will shed light on basic principles of viral evolution and immunity and will also having immediate impacts on antibody therapeutics or vaccines. Responsibilities: Work with graduate students and post-docs to perform deep mutational scanning experiments Flow cytometry/FACS, deep sequencing library preparation, and possibly generation of mutant libraries Virology experiments and computational analyses Assist in the design and implementation of a major project related to the research goals of the lab Maintain communication with others in the scientific community regarding issues related to both the general project area and the specific research project Utilize literature reviews, protocols, networking and prior laboratory experience to determine the most suitable methods and resources to be used in research Summarize and write for publication or presentation the results of research projects, often as co-author or author.
