Job Details Full-timeEstimated: $35,000 – $49,000 a year3 hours ago Qualifications – PCR – C – Genetics – Molecular biology – Bachelor’s degree Full Job Description Purpose A Research Technologist II position is immediately available in the E lab at the Neuroscience Research Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin. The lab investigates how non-neuronal tissues affect the onset of neurodegeneration in aging and the underlying molecular mechanisms, mainly using C. elegans (roundworm) as a model system. Under the general direction and supervision of the principal investigator, this Research Technologist II will be responsible for performing experiments/assays in molecular biology, genetics and fluorescence imaging, to generate data for research projects/publications/grant applications. Highly motivated individuals with extensive experience in molecular biology (plasmid design and construction, standard PCR, qPCR) are encouraged to. Demonstrated proficiency in assay/protocol optimization, troubleshooting, accurate record keeping of experimental procedures, and execution of research projects are required. Previous experience in C. elegans genetics is preferred but not required. Primary Functions Independently design plasmids and execute the cloning Design and perform assigned experiments, including but not limited to C. elegans genetic crosses, C. elegans microinjection, standard PCR, qPCR, in vivo imaging using fluorescence microscopes Analyze and present data in lab meetings May assist in lab management, including but not limited to 1) preparation of sterile buffers, media, reagents, culture (nutrient agar) plates, and competent cells; 2) ordering and maintaining supply of inventories; 3) routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research Will have opportunities to take part in publications Preferred Schedule: Position Requirements: Specifications Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree Minimum Required Experience: 2-year experience in Molecular Biology (plasmid design and construction, standard PCR, qPCR etc.) Preferred Education: Preferred Experience: C. elegans genetics Field: Biological Sciences Certification: Classification Grade Name R9 Full-Time Equivalent 1.0 FLSA Status Non-exempt FLSA Test Administrative Workweek Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs.
